Final Evaluation
When I was selecting the images for my Final portfolio I found that I included a range of photos from different shoots that created a series of travel imagery. I found that most of my images were from my most successful shoots which in my opinion were 2,3,4 and 8. The reason I liked these shoots the best was due to that final images I had produced included the edits I have created. I think they all link to different stages and aspects of travel and show how travel is becoming a huge part of everyday life. The images for my portfolio consist of coloured photos, some of which I have edited myself within photoshop. They range from seascapes to landscapes, planes, trains and other elements of travel, which I personally think created a detailed series of travel photography.
When starting my shoots I researched many photographers and found took inspiration from them to create my own approach and reflect modern travel. The use of technology has impacted this by the ability to be able to take photos easier and travel now being more restricted, an example of this is not being able to take images as easily in an airport due to security purposes. Therefore, I decided to reflect travel in my own style working with what I had. One of my favourite artists was Garry Winogrand who did a series of photos in an airport. I liked his approach of capturing people within an airport environment and creating candid images. This influenced my shoot 4 in which I accessed a small part of the airport and took images of the departures and people who were about to go on flights.
From this personal investigation I have discovered how travel is so high in demand in this era. It is now used in everyday life due to how advanced technology has become and the use of social media platforms such as Instagram where it is socially acceptable for everyone to posts pictures of their everyday travel in life. Whether this be a train journey, a beach holiday or a car driving. I have also found out the development of techniques in travel photography. When researching most photographers I found the majority of their images were black and white due to coloured film not being available. So within my computer experiments I did edit some of my own photos and see how they compared to the coloured version. Overall I did prefer the coloured images as it presented the different hues and saturations.
