WORK RECORD 6

Plans for shoot -

For this shoot I intend to capture cars and moving traffic, I intend to take images of cars moving down a motorway and capture the movement of travel.

Research influences -

Robert Adams

Born in 1937 Adams is an american photographer who focused on landscapes within the west. He started photography in his spare time by choosing his first subjects early prairie churches and early Hispanic art, subjects of unalloyed beauty. In the 1970s and ’80s Adams produced a series of books—The New West, Denver, What We Bought, Summer Nights—that focused on expanding suburbs along Colorado’s Front Range, books that pictured heedless development but also the surviving light, scale, form, and silence of the natural world. He also examined this mixture of humanity’s imprint and nature’s resilience in the wider western landscape.

Images that require improvement -

A01 -

My artist research helped inspire my shoot by the series of images Adam had taken on an american freeway in the mountains. I wanted to capture vehicles when moving and how this is a mode of travel. By looking at how he explored colour composition within these photos i intended to try and recreate the same effect with my own work.

A02 -

I used a canon DSLR in manual mode which I meant I was able to adjust my shutter speed accordingly and try to show the technique of movement in pictures. I did not do this technique for every photo as I wanted a variety of images, some with movement and some normal landscape still shots. Then in Photoshop i used camera raw and adjusted the vibrancy, colour saturation and curves.

A03 -

My idea for recording travel within this shoot was to look at the transportation of moving vehicles from an outsiders perspective. I went to a bridge overlooking a motorway and captured moving cars as well as still images. My best images were the landscapes that had been taken from a wide angle as this has included the contrast between the sky and motorway. My images that required improvement where those that i had taken in a high shutter speed which caused the image to be blurred, the reason why these could be improved is because they required a much longer shutter speed to create the effect i was after. Which was a continuous line of movement.

A04 -

My images have reflected a connection to my study as it has focused on the element of transport within travel and how people get from A to B. I wanted to try and capture this from a birds eye view, so therefore found a bridge to capture the images. Overall I thought most of the images were effective and I liked the way some of the edits had turned out.

Progression -

For my next shoot I wanted to try and experiment my photography with an abstract idea. Therefore, my plan is to get outlines and templates of a plane and hold them towards the sky to reflect a plane travelling in the air. I may even use some previous images as the templates and see what the outcomes will look like.  As this shoot I felt like wasn't the most effective and I really wasn't happy with the outcome of some images I wanted to steer away from this idea for a future shoot.
